Hagerstown, MD

It was George Washington's vision to build a canal from DC, to Pittsburgh, and into Ohio, thus the name for the C&O canal.  It was never completed and thanks to trains, the canal became obsolete well before it made it out of Maryland.

A moment to reflect

The building is now, much to my surprise, a gift shop.

hey, nice shot Nana.  I would be even more impressed with the shot if you knew how you did it.
I guess that Nana, and not I ......
                                               Win the Ansel Adams award.

Who would pay for this

I am not sure how the canal would ever pay for itself, but it was impressive.
In just about a 10 minute walk, the barge would go over a river
Under a train track.  The elevator would lift the track.
                                          Get past the duck gang
And go through lock 44 (one of over 80)

We both

attempt some artsy shots before we leave.

Pumpkins

Nothing better than a pumpkin patch visit before a birthday party.  These small ones were only good for counting.  Its time to find some big ones.

Done, and Done
If you look closely, you can see the bus driver.
 Hang on to your hats.
Only Logan and Nana could run through this tunnel.

Time to check out and head home

We take a minute to check out this rock quarry.
My pick up is still a favored play area.  For a short while I was afraid the party would be held here.
Time to dig, and drive over speed bumps.

Speed bumps

Logan does a count to ensure there are 10 speed bumps

Seems they can only be used one time.
 Time to run
You will have to check out Tracy's blog for birthday fun.  However the hungry hippo game was the smash hit of all the gifts.  Except for maybe the cool fire truck with its own missile launcher.
